Chapter 27 (Sookie) - To Add Insult to Injury

Sookie headed to work, still worrying about Sinjin.  There hadn't been a Zombie attack in ages, but there was no other reasonable explanation.
The rumors had been flowing at work.  Sinjin had eloped with her coworker, Sandy Bruty. That bitch! To add insult to injury, she thought they'd been FRIENDS!
"Don't be mad!" Sandy tried to apologize.  "It's a 3 bolt love," she added lamely.  As though that would erase the sting of the betrayal.

"Get away from me!" Sookie snapped.  "I never want to see you OR Sinjin again. You're welcome to each other!"

Sandy paused.

"I said go away!" Sookie demanded.

Sandy pointed over her shoulder.  "So you should probably know that we just moved into the Slum Cottages next door, right?"

Sookie had herself a good cry, then made dinner for one and then cried herself to sleep.  Why hadn't he loved her? What was wrong with her? and Sandy?! She was a face 5, for plumbbob sake!
It didn't take long before Sookie moved to the Anger stage of grief.
Not even a promotion could put a smile one her face.
Desperate times called for desperate measures.
She would need reinforcements.
Unfortunately, Tesira was busy with her sweet toddler Sparkle, but high school friends David Ottomas and Benito were able to come over.

"You'd probably go to jail if you did that," Benito countered, reasonably.

Sookie sighed.  "I know.  I wouldn't really do it," she said sheepishly.
After dinner, Benito said his goodbyes.  He needed to get ready for work in the morning.
David, on the other hand, stayed long into the night, keeping Sookie company.

"I just don't understand," she said sadly.  "I thought we were going to spend our lives together."

David shuffled his pieces around on the board and glanced up at her.  "You're better off without him," he told her, undeniably biased.  Sinjin was a jerk for abandoning Sookie.

Sookie glanced up and smiled at her old friend fondly.  "Do you ever think about, you know ... us?" she asked shyly.

"All the time!" David said with a half-laugh.
Sookie nervously stood up.

David followed her. "I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. But Sookie, you gotta know I've loved you since high school!  When you visited us at University, I knew it, deep down."

"You never said anything!" Sookie said with surprise.

He shrugged.  "By then, Sinjin had moved in with you.  I didn't think the news would be welcome."

"Oh," she said quietly.
David kissed her softly, a peck against her lips.  "You don't have to make any decisions right now. Get some sleep. You'll feel better in the morning," he promised.
As he left, Sookie worried over whether she was ready to start something so quickly after being betrayed by her ex.

David was right, though. Sookie felt so much better in the morning! She had a pep in her step as she headed to work.
And then she got even more good news - a promotion to Level 9!

Sookie debated whether or not to call David.  It was amazing how logical a relationship decision could be if you boiled it down to the basics.

She called him, so nervous.

"Hullo?" he answered.

Sookie opened her mouth, but no words came out.

David repeated his greeting, probably wondering if it was a crank call.

"David, it's me," she finally managed to say.  "Do you want to come over?

She couldn't see his smile over the phone, but she heard it in his voice.

David hurried over.  When the love of your life tells you that she's ready for a relationship, that is not a time to dawdle!
He was worried he might be going a little too fast when he proposed.  But, he didn't want to waste time beating around the bush.  He wanted a home, he wanted a family and he wanted it with Sookie. Always had!

Sookie tried to concentrate while she studied, but she kept thinking about David and Woohoo.  It's a wonder she got any skilling done at all!

"Do you have plans today?" she asked hesitantly.  It made her think about when Sinjin used to stay home and invite his lady friends over while she worked.

"I'll probably invite my family over to see the new place.  Is that okay with you?" he asked.

Sookie blinked.  "Your family?"

"Yeah, I haven't seen them in forever.  It'll be good to catch up with all them!"

With his response, David had unknowingly relieved any lingering doubts she had about their relationship.

"Look at you all grown up!" Peter Ottomas said in greeting, followed by the rest of the family.

"Me?" he joked. "Look at you, old man!"

His little sister Alma giggled.  "He called you old, Daddy!"
Time flew and soon Sookie was home from work.  "How was your day?' she asked.

"Good, it's been nice catching up with the family. Sorry, it's a mad house. I have a big family."

She laughed.  "Believe me, I know all about being in a big family!"
"How about I invite my family over and we make it official?" she asked him.

David caressed her face.  "Are you sure?" he asked.

She nodded.  "Yeah, I am!"
A few phone calls later, the house was crammed with family members.
"I knew you guys were meant to be together!" Tesira said excitedly.
David beamed as he exchanged rings with Sookie, making her his wife.
She cut their wedding cake and gave him a small bite.
It was great seeing their families mingle and get to know each other.
David had his limits, though. It was time for the family to leave.
He wanted to woohoo with his wife!

They settled into a routine quickly.  Sookie was trying to cram for her Lvl 10 promotion.  While she was busy reading, David cleaned house, looked for a job and goofed around at the chess table.
She'd stayed up long past the time David went to sleep, but she'd finally managed to master the skill.  Then, bleary-eyed, she fell into bed.

Still nothing that David could see himself doing for a living.

Sookie couldn't believe how much her life had changed. She was on top of the world.  Married to a great guy that loved her, a promotion on the horizon that would surely revolutionize the world.

The only thing missing was...

"It makes me nervous we haven't gotten pregnant yet," Sookie worried.  "What if I'm not able to have kids?" she asked.

"Why would you think that?" David asked with surprise.

She shrugged.  "I didn't get pregnant before... with Sinjin," she said, uncomfortable to be discussing her ex with her husband.  "And we haven't gotten pregnant yet. Even though we've, you know, woohood a lot."

David squeezed her hand.  "Don't worry. It'll happen.  And be careful what you wish for! Twins run in my family!"

"Mine too," she added sheepishly.
"Besides, in the meantime, we can practice!" David reassured her.  "A lot!"

  1. I'm sure it's just because Sinjin was using contraceptive, while she wasn't looking. In the dark, you know?

Some guys are actually sneaky about taking it OFF, because they like the risk of unplanned pregnancies and STDs, and "it just feels better, and who cares if I'm betraying the trust of the person I'm with who insisted on a condom?" Other guys, I'm sure, will pretend they're trying for a baby, and then distract the woman with something, so they can slip on protection, and then whisk it away, after the deed is done, so she's none the wiser.

Or, in Simland, maybe there are pills for men? I really wish there were pills for men, for real. Actually, there HAVE BEEN pills for men, but the men had side-effects, and unlike with women, the doctors didn't say, "Just live with them." The doctors said, "Men can't suffer through side effects, just to prevent pregnancy! We'll have to go back to the drawing board!" And so, no pills for men, until they come up with PERFECT pills for men, because MEN!

Can you tell I'm angry? Sorry.

Anyway, I'm sure Sookie will have the baby (babies?) she wants, soon. YAAY! Good man for a husband! HUZZAH! He's not a Nice Guy (TM). He's a GOOD guy. Also, quite nice.

I'm so happy for Sookie! Yaaaay! And I hope Sinjin and Sandy get a big kick out of their triple bolt love, and NOTHING ELSE.

    1. Lol. Anything can exist in Simland! I really like Sookie & David together. I'll have to play the Ottomas household and Sinjin household soon to try to keep them the same ages.
