Chapter 28 (Urbain) - Gotta Put a Ring On It

One of the drawbacks of the Oceanography career was how early Teak's carpool arrived.
Being landlocked in Calamity Canyon, they had to travel for many hours to reach the ocean.

"Have you seen the remodeling jobs Tetris Lee has done on the block?" Urbain asked his wife excitedly.

She smiled. "Yes! They look so beautiful! I was hoping we could remodel, too."

"What do you think about a PIRATE SHIP?" he asked eagerly.
"Urbain Sharp! If you remodel this house like a pirate ship, you'll be sleeping in the galley!" Allyn said, crossing her arms.  Really? This was beyond the pale!  She put up with a lot, but she would not live in a pirate ship!

With a lot of compromise, they wound up with a nice cabin-feel.
Their new entry way led to wooden stairs without any creaks or squeaks.
An extra bathroom for their large family behind the stairs.
Up the stairs was a small galley kitchen with a dining area.
Passing through the kitchen led to the living area in the original home.  Allyn insisted on setting up a reading nook on one side.
Upstairs, the loft remained much the same, with the walls and flooring finally completed.
The children's room got a small makeover with soft carpeting & festive wallpaper.
The nursery nook had all the baby items shoved in, to be stored until the next generation needed to use them.

You wouldn't have thought that Oceanographers needed to max their body skill, but it was hard work!  Teak worked out hard for his next promotion.

It was clear that Gary was anxious to get to know Rogue better, but he just didn't do it for her.
But perhaps he would be good practice for flirting.

"We should have another baby.." Urbain said offhandedly while they played a game of chess.

Allyn's heart stopped beating for a moment and she had a small panic attack.  "Another baby?!" she gasped.  "No! I can't even have children anymore!"

"Not us, woman! You didn't let me finish.  We should have another baby in the house!  When is Teak going to get around to marry that sweet, young thing he met at college?"

Allyn breathed a sigh of relief.  She loved her children dearly, but her difficult pregnancy had left her slightly traumatized.

Sailor and Quay often rough-housed after school as a way to lighten the mood and have some fun.  Most days Rogue would join them. But today she was too busy with her booooooy friend!
Or was she? Apparently she hadn't been able to keep Gary's attention.  She needed to work on her flirting technique!

Aw, Urbain & Allyn, so in love after all these years.
Allyn still wasn't sure what happened exactly.  One minute they were making out and talking about sneaking down to the double bed while the teens were playing outside.

Then the next thing she knew, Urbain was gone.
Teak heard her scream from downstairs and shimmied up the ladder to see what was wrong.  Nothing prepared him for the sight of his Dad on the ground and his stepmom sobbing in the corner of the room.

"Where do you think he buried all the treasure?" Quay asked his brother.

Sailor shrugged. "We'll need to find his maps."

His 8th promotion  felt somewhat hollow without his dad around.  His dad would've taken him to Tortuga to celebrate.  It just wasn't the same without Urbain.
"The last thing your father asked me was when you were going to have a grandbaby," Allyn said sadly.  "He would've been such a good grandpa!"

Teak set his book aside, struck.  He'd let his Dad down.  He'd told Lisa that he wanted to wait until he was more established in his career, maybe let one or two of his siblings move out so there was more space.

But, what was he waiting for?

Lisa was excited to see him.  He may not have been as suave or romantic as he could have been, but she didn't seem to mind.

Teak grabbed Lisa and pulled her to him.  "I can't wait to woohoo!" he told her huskily.   She caught him offguard when she pushed him away.
"Just because I moved in doesn't mean I'm ready to woohoo!" she snapped.  "I'm an old-fashioned girl.  Ring before woohoo!"
Teak was surprised.  She'd never seemed particularly old fashioned before. He thought of all the times they made out in college and got close to woohoo.
"Um, okay.  Well, Lisa, will you marry me?" he asked, dropping to his knee and offering her his mother's wedding ring (that he always kept close).
"It's beautiful!" she gasped, lifting her hand up and inspecting the gem.  "Do you now how many carats it is?"
It wasn't quite the wedding that Teak had anticipated, but it served it's purpose.

"All I'm saying is that you should find a man that gives jewelry as presents," Lisa told her new, impressionable sister-in-law.  "If he likes it then he's gotta put a ring on it!"

Allyn sighed when she noticed her daughter-in-law went back to bed after breakfast. She hoped the girl wasn't lazy!
Once the morning chores were finished, she sat down and continued working on her story.

With a flourish, she signed her name on the manuscript and headed down to send it off to be copied.

"What did you write about anyways?" Lisa asked over lunch.
"It was a cold, dreary night when Martha Sharp, your husband's mother, came home from work," Allyn began the tale.  It was important that Lisa be told the legend in case she were ever to run into their resident ghost.

Ah, pregnancy! That would explain her ravenous appetite and extreme exhaustion.
 Extreme!

The kids were all hanging out, like usual.  Just sitting around and cracking jokes and talking smack about that second cousin weasel, Syllabus Lee.
Rogue was just talking about growing up when it dawned on Sailor. He was 18, he was practically an adult now!
No, he was adult!  He could do whatever he wanted to do now!
A wave of panic hit him.  There were so many decisions, so many responsibilities that came with adulthood.  He just wanted to play and have fun!

Teak wondered if anyone had mentioned his mother's ghost to his wife.  The last thing he needed was his mother scaring Lisa to death!

🎶  Strangers in the night, two lonely people
We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment when we said our first hello
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away, a warm embracing dance away
And ever since that night
We've been together
Lovers at first sight
In love forever  🎶

"We need to get out and let loose a little bit," Sailor told his brother.

Teak hesitated.  "I don't know.  I shouldn't leave Lisa here alone."

Sailor clasped his hands together and begged.  "Please Teak, I need to get out of this house!"

"Okay, but remember, we're only staying for a few hours," Teak reminded his brother when they'd arrived at Tortuga.

"Sure, sure. Gotcha," Sailor said, heading up the walkway to paradise.

Lisa woke up from her nap and looked around for Teak.  He wasn't anywhere to be found, and she knew he didn't work today.
"Have you seen Teak?" she asked her mother-in-law.
"Oh yes, dear. He went with Sailor to Tortuga," she told her.

Lisa chewed her lip.  "Tortuga? What's that she asked?"

"A pirate's paradise," Allyn told her.

"Will they be back soon?"

Allyn was already shaking her head no before Lisa finished her sentence.  "Don't expect them back until the early hours of the morning," she said.  "Tortuga has a way of making a man forget the time!"

Sailor grabbed the paper first thing in the morning, and boy was he glad he did.
Although he would've loved to be an adventurer, the time just wasn't right.  And he could think of nothing better than to follow in his dad's footsteps!

Lisa's labor pains caught everyone off guard.
But, the twins was a bigger surprise!
 Pacific Sharp
 Ocean Sharp.

Both named after their father's love of the sea.
Allyn helped clear the path to the family heirloom cribs.  She was frankly surprised cardboard was built to last as well as these boxes had.

It felt like it'd been ages since she'd last help a child in her arms, Allyn thought, rocking the flour bag baby in her arms.
If you need someone to snuggle, try the two live newborns in the nursery nook, Allyn. Are we sure she's a cognizant elder?

Teak felt bad his brother hadn't found anyone interesting when they visited Tortuga.  In fact, they'd had a few beers and then played some pool all night long and no one interesting showed up.  It'd been a pretty big bust. Even worse, Lisa had been pissed that he'd been gone all night without telling her.
But he'd figured out a way to help his bro out.  Pulling out his phone book, he started dialing.
When all the girls arrived, Teak pushed Sailor out into the crowd of beauties and locked the door.
Sailor was in heaven.  So many beautiful girls to talk to!
And they were all interested in him!
He couldn't decide who he liked the most.   He spent the evening chatting all the girls up until they finally left around 2 in the morning.

Allyn felt her presence before she actually saw Marsha's ghost.

"My grandson," Marsha whispered before wafting through the room.

Well, at least she hadn't yelled at her this time, Allyn thought smugly.

Apparently Sailor had stayed up too late with the girls.  He fell asleep right in front of the ladder downstairs because no beds were available.  Lisa was still sleeping upstairs in the bunk bed since she was mad at Teak about Tortuga.
The place was too crowded and it was time for him to get on with his life and partying.
"I love you! Be safe!" Allyn called out as he loaded his things into the taxi.
It was an understatement to say Allyn wasn't handling her son's move-out very well.

  1. Awwwww, poor Allyn! I like her so much. She's been one of my own favorite spouses. Now, she lost her husband, and her son moved out.

That "Strangers in the Night" bit had me laughing! Still, it's nice to see them back together, after all this time. I hope there's no jealousy in the afterlife.

Cute babies! But that house needs room. Good for Sailor for moving out.

It occurs to me that by this time, it's possible that he may not even need to marry, for a spouse to make a lift. He could be a happy bachelor, just partying his life away, so long as he makes his own lift, during the process. Not every twig on the tree has to become a full-blown branch, right?

    1. I'm not sure why she's not happy! She's a family Sim & has two little babies to play with! Lol

I love it when old couple ghosts wander around the property together. <3

I can't wait to see what Pacific and Ocean look like when they grow up! I bet they'll have Urbain's loooong nose!

Yeah, Sailor may not need to marry. We'll see if he made any love connections with those girls. Without his brother to invite them over, it may be hard to see thema gain! LOL
