Chapter 23 (Urias) - The Tie That Binds

Urias headed to the school lot with his girlfriend.  She was interested in seeing him work.

"All right, but try not to interrupt," he said as he took a seat.
And then proceeded to read for the next hour while the children mingled.

She glanced around the room curiously.  Was this all the school entailed?  She supposed he knew best!

Back home, she checked the newspaper for a job. She didn't like staying at home alone all day.  She wanted to be out there, doing something productive!

She wasn't sure what had woken her from a deep sleep.

Worriedly, she told Urias about her pregnancy.  Their relationship was still new as they felt each other out and tried to figure out if they were compatible.

He took it in stride, saying that he'd always wanted a child of his own.

Together, they sat down and made plans for their future.

Urias surprised Marissa when he explained he didn't believe in marriage and didn't plan to ever propose.  He explained how traumatized her was when Kaylynn had turned her brother down and crushed his heart.  She had argued and lobbied against this decision, but when it came down to it, she was content with the commitment he was willing to offer.
Her first order of business was to set up the nursery.   She was willing to be in a committed relationship without the sanctity of marriage, but her child would not be placed in box!
Normally a go-getter, these days, Marisa got exhausted at the drop of a hat.

Urias finally managed to get a promotion.  One more job level and he would be at the top of the ladder!
Deciding now was the time to focus on his career, he hit the books.

Unfortunately, that left Marisa feeling neglected.

"If this isn't what you want, I can just go," she told him.  "There's no law that says we need to stay together for the kid."  She crossed her arms and waited.

He shook his head. "That's not what I want," he told her.  "I love you, and our unborn child.  I'll make more of an effort to juggle family and work life," he promised.
And he did. Urias tried to spend time with Marisa every day, even talking to their unborn child and feeling her belly jump when the baby kicked.
And somehow, he even managed to master his Cleaning skill.

The couple was in need of friends outside the family, though.  He met a nice man through work and invited him over for dinner.

The time had finally come.
Welcome to the family Theorem Bendett.

Riding the high from having his first child, Urias managed to reach the top of the Education career.

Education Restrictions Lifted:
  • Sims may not attend school or college.
  • Sims may not teach other Sims skills via career rewards.
  • Knowledge Aspiration Perks may not be redeemed.
  • Aspirations may not be changed, but Secondary Aspirations must be selected on the teen birthday.
  • Only Sims in the Education career may use the Bookshelf of Education.
He and Marisa celebrated.

Marisa wondered absently if she could be pregnant again so soon.
Urias was excited when she told him the good news!

She was putting Theorem to bed when the unexpected happened.  The stove got fire!
Quickly she grabbed her baby and raced from the home.
You could see the fire raging inside.
Since the town did not have a volunteer firefighting squad, she had to take care of it herself.  It was the scariest thing she'd done in her life.  She uselessly jumped from foot to foot for a short while. "What do I do? What do I do?" she muttered anxiously.
Finally, she remembered the fire extinguished under the sink! She managed to grab it before the flame engulfed that cabinet. It felt like hours she battled the blaze.
She heard the door open and Urias angrily call out, "Why was Theorem left outside in the cold?" he demanded.  "He's chilled to the..." he gasped at the sight of the charred kitchen.
He raced to her side.  "Are you okay?" he asked anxiously.  Plumbbob, he could've lost her.  She was covered in sweat and smoke, but he'd never thought she looked more beautiful than she did standing there at this moment.
He dropped to knee and proposed.  All of his reasons for not wanting to get married fell away before the very real possibility that he could have lost her.  He wanted that commitment to her, that tie binding them.
Marissa accepted, although she felt hesitant.  She'd gotten used to the way things were and wasn't sure she wanted to change it.
Thankfully, he didn't make her wait long before making her his wife.
Urias was sure he was older and wiser now.  He would spend the rest of his life proving to Marissa that she made the right decision by marrying him.
Happy Birthday to Theorem!

It was soon his turn to host the family gathering.  His favorite nephew Tetris was first up the stairs.  He hugged the lanky teen and motioned him to come inside.
"I see you're finally getting some gray hair!" his brother Vito teased him.

Urias chuckled, giving him a hug.  "Not as much as you, old man!"
It was nice to see the family mingle and catch up on each other's lives.
Awww! Second Cousins! 💓

All the excitement from the day may have led Marissa to go into labor.
Welcome to the family baby boy Syllabus Lee.

Marisa felt slightly guilty that he sons would have different last names since she and Urias were unmarried at the time of Theorem's birth.

    1. Since Marisa is pregnant, I thought we were going to lose her! Lol. Her motives started tanking! I wasn't sure why she got the bad memory of getting engaged, so I was nervous when I had Urias get married, expecting a repeat of what happened to Vito. Lol. Whoop! Top of Education! *dance party*

  2. WHOOOOOOO! The children still can't study from books, as they do not raise fun, but the adults sure can! Right? I LOVE the Bookshelf of Education. My favorite career reward. Followed by Law - you get charisma skill, fun, AND money!

That was so scary with the fire! And poor Theorem! It's a hard choice, do you endanger your child by keeping him inside and warm, or endanger him by keeping him away from the fire, and cold? And possibly orphaned. YIKES!

Pregnancy is scary. I remember my VERY FIRST DAY playing the Sims 2, when my hungry (but not starving!) pregnant sim went to buy groceries, and came home, stocked the fridge, and promptly died in front of it. I reloaded over and over and over, but I could NOT save her. Who knew pregnancy was so darned dangerous? She wasn't STARVING. It was because of the pregnancy, and her general mood being too low. I was traumatized. I couldn't continue to play that family, as I was just too upset. I avoided pregnancy for a while afterwards, too. Adoption, for the win!

I got over it, and played pregnancies again, eventually, but they still make me nervous, sometimes.
